special assignment
I was thinking about the metaphor assignment.I did not come up with a conclusion why many of us did not get that metaphor.I thought about Randy Pausch's last lecture.`I know we understood his metaphor. The only conclusion I could come up with is that we need to read things very carefully.
final report for my PLN
I did not have a PLN before this class.I have a blog and my class blog.I never new before this class that gmail and documents would be part of my PLN.YouTube is part of my learning network.AVI is the video recording software I have on my PC.I have used Twitter some.I plan to get more proficient on Twitter.

The teacher I was assigned is the author of classroom chronicles. She is a year 5 teacher at a girls school in Sydney, Australia. The first was about hacking the system. She went to a seminar on professional development. She got pointers on how to use time better.I commented on how it is hard to believe that we will have less time as teachers. The second post was about spaces. She changed her classroom so her students could learn differently. The classroom was set up for group work , individual work, and then last with desks for the traditional learning environment.I commented that I thought this was good for learning especially with this age group.

ALEX stands for Alabama Learning Exchange.I was amazed at how much information is on this site. The reason for this site is help teachers with anything from lesson plans to podcasts. The other thing I liked was that you can find your subject and any grade level ad it tells the objectives that should be met.I hope any teachers that are not using this site will.I know now I definitely will when I start teaching.I also think that this would be a good tool for parents.

The blog post I thought we were missing was Lamas Foundation Kids' Blog.Write how you agree or how you disagree with this site.I thought this was interesting to see how other college students viewed their college experience.I like learning from practicing teachers although,we can learn a lot from fellow college students.I believe we will benefit in the long run by learning from everyone.I like getting someone else's take on the whole college experience.

Mr.McClung is a 8th grade history and computer teacher in Arkansas. He expects his students to work together and be energetic. He is really interested in what his students need.He will admit if anything does not work if it helps his students. He has a blog that is easy to navigate.MR.McClung is very respected with his studentsbecause they now exactly what is expected.I think he is stricter with homework than Dr.Strange.

I really enjoyed seeing the 1ST graders in Ms. Cassidy's class in action.I was amazed to see everything that the class could do.I really liked that the class blogs.Ms.cassidy has done a great job with her technology journey. The journey was hers and her classes.I really like how enthusiastic the kids are .Teachers need to find new and innovative way for students to learn .The best tool in this day and age is technology.I found the Skype interview with Dr. Strange very interesting and informative.I was fascinated to find out that her class just started with web page and it has progress to blogging and Skype.Ms Cassidy's class started kind of like EDM 310 it started as one thing and has progressed to something else.i was trying to think of which one of Ms .Cassidy's activities I could use in my classroom.I thin Skype is going to be a very good tool in my classroom.I think Skype and twitter are the best tools I could use in my math classroom.

I was assigned jtspencer.com .Spencer has been a teacher for six years. The first post was was about Cynic's Day.The post was about the path .I thin as educators or future educators the path can be symbolic.I also liked Spencer referred to some things being out of our control. The second post was about one word.Spencer talked about being about being a father and a teacher .He talks about the word is love.He also mentions that you are going to make mistakes.I really liked that as a future teacher that present teachers do realize none of us are perfect.I also believe that is what will make us good teachers.

The 4th student I was assigned was Rocky in Mr.Harris' class at Pt.England School in New Zealand.Rocky talked about their baseball game.I commented I was glad to read about their baseball game. The fifth student was off a class blog of 5 year olds at Pt England School. The student I was assigned had a picture of an elephant and commented that her elephant was brainy.I commented that I liked her post and picture. The sixth one I was assigned is a class blog. The post was about what makes a great post .I commented that I liked the post and the safety tips.
blog post #9
I enjoyed the essay by Mr.Mcclung.The best way to summarize what this essay was about focusing on students.I believe that we focus on ourselves instead of the students. The best thing about the essay was how he focused on teachers continuing learning.I believe when we are finished with our education and start teaching we will all have to adjust our way of thinking to properly educate our students.

The second teacher I was assigned is Scott Kemp. The first post I commented on was being prepared or not.The thought behind this post is focusing on learning not a lesson plan.I commented that this important because learning is the most important thing. The second post was about why the room is quiet. He made an assignment on how they learn .I commented that most students probably are not used t o being responsible for their own learning.
progress report #10 my PLN
I was considering what my PLN was before this class and it almost nonexistent .I had Gmail but did not realize everything you could do with Google such as making documents. I did not realize you could do questionaires and it would also put it in spreadsheets where you could analyze your results.I would say the biggest part of my PLN is student and teacher blogs.I also had no idea how to use imovie before this class.I am trying to use Twitter and YouTube now but did not try to before this class.
blog post #7
vRandy Pausch I was really dreading watching an hour long video like some other students, that changed as soon as I started watching it .I realized this was not the first time I have seen Randy Pausch speak.I saw his wife speak on the Oprah Winfree ,that episode they showed exerpts of him speaking at graduation. He embodies the word motivational. I agree with Randy that you cannot give up on your dreams. The thing I liked was he referred to the brick wall, that force that tries to stop us from achieving our dreams. We are or will be educators,so we have to believe in achieving anything.I think Randy's health situation proves that point. I could not imagine having a family and be given death sentence. He is truly inspirational,as far as his attitude.I don't know that I cold have that positive attitude if I were in the same position.I understand that he would rather focus on quality time. The problem is as we grow up we learn to forget about our dreams. I liked all the videos of his parents.I could tell they were probably wonderful people to raise such an amazing man.One thing I noticed was how many hits were on his video compared to other videos.I know his wife and kids are so proud of everything he accomplished and did with such dignity. The one good thing is that his legacy will live on through his children. video

1)The Networked Student was an interesting video.I think all teachers are going to have to be ready for networked students.Technology is being taught to students so early now that many students can do more with technology than their parents. The technology is going to continue advancing especially in the classroom.I am not ready for networked students yet.The reason I feel I am not ready yet is because I have been out of school for a number of years and I am learning about technology.EDM 310 is starting the process of getting me ready for networked students.I am learning a lot about technology.I agreed with the video just because we have networked students does not mean that they do not need teachers. The job we have as educators is guide our students to use technology properly. The best example I could use is Dr. Strange for EDM310 . 2) A 7TH Graders Personal Learning Environment is very interesting from a student's perspective .I liked all the tools that were given. The one I liked the most was describing a science report and the students could skype scientists to check facts. The way the video was presented I interpreted it more about personal learning network. 3)The Machine Is Changing Us gives us a different perspective than we are used to thinking about.YouTube has become so popular. The difference is it can be isolated and part of the greater good at the same time.Authenticity does not just mean one thing when it comes to YouTube.

The resources I used were the Practical Principals,Education Podcast Network, and The Benefits Of Podcasts In The Classroom.I considered all of these sources very useful.I enjoyed the resource on benefits in the classroom the most.I had never thought about how parents could actually physically see what is going on their child's classroom.I liked the fact that if a child is sick, that child can still see what is going on and can stay home. I enjoyed the fact that the Practical Principals was audio.I used to think about a podcast as using video only.I did not think of using audio only .The main thing I liked about Education Podcast Network is interesting because you can find one on any subject.I have learned a lot since I started doing research for my podcast.I did not realize itunes could be used as an educational tool until this course.

The First teacher was Edna Sackson. She is a learning and teaching coordination in a PYP School in Australia.Iwas not sure what a pyp school was.I searched it and found it is primary years program, which is usually kindergarden through fifth grade.Mrs. Sackson writes a learning blog that was nominatedfor best educational in 2010.The first post I commented on was about focusing on learning instead of teaching. She gave several ideas like working in groups and blogging were a couple.I compared her ideas to edm310.The second post was about how teachers learn. She explained in the past it was mostly through administrators. The present is from other teachers and those teachers are responsible for alot of their own learning. The future is with more social media. The comments I made were I liked the comparison.I stated I think that twitter is a prime example of the social media for the future.

Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff? 1)I enjoyed the blog because some of those comments about the internet being so dangerous a lot of people still believe That.I do believe the web can be dangerous but it's like anything else they require supervision.I agree with DR.Mccleod it is not saying use technology and forget about the rest. Scott Mccleod is respected in his field, which is Education technology in elementary all the way to high school. He was one the creators of Did You Know?(Shift Happens). We could learn a lot from him and I am sure we will. The i school initiative 2)The way this video was presented was done so very well.I can agree with some of the points.I mean what was said about cutbacks and textbook shortage was all true. The idea behind this is based off of iphone and itouch. We still need to educate our kids and technology is not the only way.The student that was for this does not completely understand how technology is used in education.I did enjoy the presentation even though I did not completely agree. The Lost Generation 3)I the thought the way they presented video was very innovative and creative.Time will tell which version was true. Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir 4)The virtual choir was very interesting and unique.I really did not how much until I found out none these people had even sung together. A Vision of students today I did not relate to this video as much as the younger students because I have different responsibilities.I envy the student that works two hours a day.The gist of it is probably true . The video helped me think about my typical day.Technology can be a positive but ;we need to learn to use it at the right times . "It's Not About The Technology" THE Title of this article is not exactly what you think it is going to be about.MRS' Hines does not minimize the importance of technology. She just talks about some other things that are equally important such as creativity and problem solving.I agree with her.I believe we need to focus on the tools it takes to get the technology.A couple examples of this is you need to be proficient in math to be good at problem solving and you also need to be skilled in arts and writing to be creative. Karl Fisch : Is it OK To Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher? I completely agree with MR. Fisch that it is unacceptable to be willingly technologically illiterate. The job we have or will have as educators is hard enough we need to use every tool we have at our disposal. The fact is we almost completely rely on technology.I know the only phone I have had for the past couple of years is my cell phone.I am not the most technology savvy person,it is a work in progress. The Social Media Count The media count is what I expected, but those numbers are reaching exponentially and they are only going to keep rising. The main goal to be a good educator is to be a life long learner. The thing is we can have as many degrees as we would like and can afford ,but we will never everything.Technology is just a tool we use to educate and learn more. There are numerous ways that technology can help us become better teachers.I have an example I was observing a math class at Daphne Middle School and the teacher received an e-mail trying to figure out how to solve an equation. The fact is can you imagine how long this would take if we did not have e-mail. The reason I mentioned this is because this could have been done on Twitter or Facebook or numerous other ways.

Did You Know? The information in this video gave us lot of facts, but that is not the most important thing it is what those facts exemplify. The video gave us lots of stats on population ,births, and intelligence worldwide. The most astonishing facts were the ones given on the technology that has developed over last ten to fifteen years.Population and births were lower than text messages daily and number of Google searches.the video also stated how people are training for jobs that do not exist yet.technology effects every aspect of our life that is personal and professional.
Vicki Davis : Harnessing your digital smart Vicki Davis has computer class in rural Georgia that is not traditional. She follows the curriculum , but she does that by the students working on projects over the internet with other students ,blogging, and having the students teach. She is doing what we all need to do as educators finding what works to keep students interested. Mrs.Davis' class makes me think of EDM310. The way you learn is very similar ,that is through projects and independent learning. We all have to become computer literate to try to keep up with technology.
Ken Robinson has some fascinating ideas on creativity. The idea that creativity is just as important knowledge in your core classes such as your math and sciences. The idea that the arts can be just as important. Learning would be enjoyable to more students if more educators had more of these ideas. Creativity used by the teachers as well as students could change the learning environment immensely.
Mr. Winkle Wakes
I found both the videos quite intriguing. The numbers in "Did you know?" were unbelievable;or someone might have thought twenty years ago.the fact is who would have thought the majority of the American population have cell phones, blackberries, etc. The technology is getting more advanced everyday. The facts I thought was amazing is that jobs are starting to be trained for that do not even exist yet and1 out of 8 couples met on the internet. The fact I find scary is how far behind we are compared to other countries.I think alot of us could relate to MR.Winkle in "MR. Winkle Wakes."We can not pretend the technology does not exist anymore.I think the information we received from both of these videos proves that. Cecelia Gault (student from Finland)interview Sir Ken Robinson She interviews Sir Ken Robinson and he focuses on creativity .He does not believe some people are not capable of being creative. He believes that we as educators need to encourage students to be creative in all subjects not just not just specific subjects.I believe his techniques on creativity can help us in the classroom and with technology.
